Late Wednesday night, ex-Marine Ian David Long entered the Borderline Bar and Grill in Thousand Oaks, California, threw a smoke bomb, and started shooting the people inside the bar. In the end, he murdered 11 people who had come out for country music night and then shot himself. Several other people were injured and are currently in the hospital- estimates say it could be up to 15 wounded.
Over the next few days, everyone will try to dissect Long's life, his mental health, and try to figure out why he did what he did but let's focus on the victims:
These were all people with bright futures and who meant a lot to so many people. These are people who exhibited bravery in the face of terror- some of them even helped others to escape before being killed. These are people who had so much to offer the world but whose lives were tragically cut short by gun violence.
I am so sorry for the victims of this senseless tragedy and my heart goes out to their family members and friends who are mourning the loss of their loved ones today.
